Sliabh Beagh Arts
At the Heart of Rural Creativity
The overarching aim for Sliabh Beagh Arts is the development and implementation of a series of community Arts programmes which address the social, creative, economic, cultural, environmental and good relations needs within the area. We are dedicated to providing high quality arts activity, promoting the use of creativeness as a means of enriching the lives of the rural communities involved. Our programs aim to promote the importance of our physical and personal environment, looking to the rural for inspiration and exploring the culture in AgriCULTURE.
All of our projects are innovative and we try to bring something special to the area every year.
Where we work and how we came to be
When Sliabh Beagh Arts was first commissioned, it was a sub-section or child of, lets it was the artistic wing of the Sliabh Beagh Development Association. Phew, that's a long name, why don't we just refer to it as SBDA from now on, does that help? . . . Anyway, The SBDA was a committee which started with approximately 28 civic minded who were brought together to to help generate unity in the then VERY divided communities. The various communities were divided by sectarian, political, financial and border issues. The group received funding from the Peace Process I, II, III and IV to successfully help the area. SBDA successfully created The Sliabh Beagh Walks, and they played a part in the Sliabh Beagh Hotel & Tourism Centre and many other projects all of which have become self sufficient parts of the Sliabh Beagh area both today and into the future
With wounds healing, time passing and funding for that civic process disappearing the SBDA was liquidated in 2016. But The Arts Section of SBDA was still a strong creative and viable section of the Association. So several volunteers, Janie Crone, Anita Conlon and Noel Maguire agreed to manage the artistic group and with a magic wand "Sliabh Beagh Arts" became it's own thing. We are lead by Donna Bannon and are partially funded by the Arts Council of Northern Ireland for some of the educational and community art work we do. Otherwise we are a Not for Profit/Charity organisation.
Donations
We occasionally run fundraising events and notify all on our Facebook and events pages. We are of course happy to accept any donations for the artistic community work we do (PayPal Link) (Stripe Link)
